How to turn your CV into the Europass format

Hyperion · 2 November 2026 · 4-minute read

There are two ways to get your CV in the Europass format. You can fill it in from scratch on the European Commission's official website, or start from the CV you already have, in PDF or Word, and convert it with Passform. The first makes sense if you still have to write your CV; the second if you already have one and have been asked for it in Europass.

In brief

  • What it is: the CV template promoted by the European Union, with standard sections for personal details, work experience, education, skills and languages.
  • From scratch: on the official Europass website, free of charge and in 31 languages, by creating a profile.
  • From the CV you already have: with Passform you upload a PDF, Word, ODT, RTF or scanned file and download the Europass version in DOCX and PDF. Free for candidates.
  • Either way: read the result before sending it.

What the Europass CV is

Europass is the European Union's set of online tools for managing learning and careers. It is run by the European Commission, through the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, and offered free of charge in 31 languages (Europass).

The Europass CV has standard sections: this is why public bodies, companies and consultancies often ask for it, as it makes profiles easier to compare.

Way 1: fill it in on the official website

This is the right route if you do not have a CV yet or want to rewrite it from the beginning (Europass).

  1. Create your free Europass profile.
  2. Enter your education and training, work experience and skills. There is also an "About me" section to introduce yourself.
  3. Choose one of the available templates.
  4. Download the CV or keep it in the Europass Library of your profile.

Way 2: convert the CV you already have

If you already have a CV and have been asked for the Europass version, copying everything out by hand is wasted effort. Passform, Hyperion's software, starts from your file (Passform FAQ).

  1. Upload your CV in PDF, Word (DOCX), ODT, RTF or plain text. It also works with a scanned PDF: the text is recognised automatically.
  2. Choose the language of the document, Italian or English.
  3. Download the Europass version in DOCX, to touch up, and in PDF, to send.
  4. Read it through before sending it.

It is free for candidates and you can try it even without an account. With a free account your conversions are kept.

What about the data in the CV?

The uploaded file is deleted immediately after the conversion; the generated documents remain available for 30 days on the free plan. The application and data are on Microsoft Azure, in the European Union. The text of the CV is sent to Anthropic only to structure it and is not used to train models.

Already have a CV and need it in Europass? Convert it with Passform: upload the file you have and download the Europass version.

Before sending it: what to check again

  • Names and dates, especially if the original CV was a scan.
  • Order of experience: from the most recent to the oldest.
  • Up-to-date contact details: an email address and phone number you actually check.
  • Language: the same as the job advert you are replying to.
  • Format: send the PDF, keep the DOCX for future changes.

For agencies and consultancies

Those who put candidates forward to clients have an extra need: removing personal data and adding their own letterhead. Passform anonymises using fixed rules, not left to the artificial intelligence model, at several levels: contacts only, full with initials or a code, or blind, which also hides employers. For agencies, a data processing agreement under Article 28 of the GDPR is available.
